The Historic District Working Group's mission is to ensure a sustainable town center that is economically
viable, green, and pedestrian-friendly while preserving the historic character of the waterfront.
Goals:
-
To respect Blue Hill’s sea-faring past, its shipping trade in timber, seafood, and granite, centered on the harbor while planning for sustainability in response to climate change.
-
To provide public spaces, with walking paths connecting parks, town institutions, shops, and art centers.
-
To make the town center welcoming, safe and accessible to those with limited mobility, accommodating everyone from toddlers to seniors.
-
To keep historic structures intact in ways that are useful and attractive,
-
To support affordable housing, needed for both seasonal and year-round residents.
